One of the deepest wounds many people carry is the quiet belief that they are only loved by God when they are doing well. That somehow His affection rises and falls with their performance. That when they fail, struggle, doubt, or become tired, He becomes distant, disappointed, or cold toward them. But the heart of the Father has never worked that way.
From the very beginning, God’s desire has always been closeness with His children. The story of scripture is not about a reluctant God trying to tolerate humanity. It is about a loving Father moving heaven and earth to bring His children back into His arms. The cross was never proof that God wanted distance from you. It was proof that nothing could stop Him from coming after you.
Jesus did not die to convince the Father to love you. Jesus came because the Father already loved you beyond words. Before you ever prayed, before you ever understood grace, before you ever got your life together, His heart was already turned toward you with compassion and tenderness. The cross was love revealed, not love created.
Scripture tells us that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting people’s sins against them. What a breathtaking picture of the Father’s heart. He was not standing far away in anger while Jesus tried to protect you from Him. The Father Himself was reaching through Christ, drawing humanity back home. Every nail, every wound, every drop of blood carried the message: “You are wanted. You are loved. Come near.”
Jesus perfectly revealed what the Father is like. When Jesus embraced the broken, that was the Father embracing the broken. When Jesus forgave the ashamed, that was the Father forgiving the ashamed. When Jesus sat with the rejected, comforted the fearful, healed the hurting, and welcomed sinners with compassion, He was showing us the very heart of God. The Father is not harsher than Jesus. He looks exactly like Him.
So many people live exhausted, constantly afraid they are failing God. They try to earn rest, earn approval, earn closeness, earn peace. But love that must be earned is not the love Jesus revealed. Your relationship with God was not built upon your ability to be perfect. It was built upon Christ’s finished work. His grace is not fragile. His mercy is not temporary. His love does not disappear every time you stumble.
Even when you are weak, His heart toward you remains steady.
When you feel anxious, He draws near.
When you feel ashamed, He invites you closer.
When you feel overwhelmed, He does not abandon you to carry the weight alone.
He is a Father who stays.
The enemy wants people to see God as distant because fear keeps hearts hiding. But the voice of Jesus has always been, “Come to Me.” Not run away. Not clean yourself up first. Not prove yourself worthy. Just come. The Father has never despised the trembling, the weary, the wounded, or the struggling child who reaches for Him.
You are not a burden to God.
You are not barely tolerated by Heaven.
You are deeply known, deeply seen, and deeply loved.
The Father’s affection for you is not shallow or temporary. It is steady through every season of life. In moments where you feel strong and in moments where you feel like you are falling apart, His love remains unchanged. He is not carefully measuring your failures to decide whether you still belong to Him. Jesus already settled your worth at the cross.
And in these moments, right now, maybe your soul simply needs to rest in that again.
You are loved more than you realize.
Wanted more than you know.
Held more securely than you feel.
The Father is not standing with crossed arms waiting for perfection. He is standing with open arms, welcoming His children into peace, into grace, and into relationship with Him. Through Jesus, you have been invited near forever. And nothing can separate you from the love that has pursued you all along.
