I pray these people will be dealt with ever so harshly for their false teachings of the Word of God.
Comfortable Christianity and prosperity gospel are some of the greatest lies ever sold from a pulpit.
And the easiest to sell.
Somewhere along the way, we started making Jesus appear to be some kind of self-help product, as if following Christ means smoother roads, bigger blessings, fewer problems, and a polished version of the same old life. It doesn’t. And we (Church!!) need to stop pretending that it does. It’s none of those things, because following Christ means we stop trying to focus on what we want out of our own lives and focus on what He wants from us.
The way to Christ is narrow. It always has been. Jesus never described it as safe, convenient, or comfortable. He never promised turbulent-free and flourishing. He described it as costly. He described it as dying. He told us plainly: deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Me.
Let’s not forget, my dear American friends… crosses are not accessories. They were instruments of death! These symbolically have a very dark history with a very serious purpose. If you do wear one of these, it should be a sobering reminder of the events that brought this death tool into the mainstream to begin with.
Even still, many churches keep making altar calls that sound like sales pitches, promising peace without repentance, blessing without surrender, and discipleship without sacrifice. What gospel are these folks reading? What Jesus have they met? What religion are they pushing? Their message simply isn’t right or true!
They invite people to “add Jesus” to their lives instead of calling them to lay their lives down entirely. That isn’t the gospel. That’s propaganda. This is false teaching that genuinely opposes and damages the true church.
Because when trials of life come for these misinformed, wrongfully shepherded, completely susceptible converts - and they always come - people will walk away from the Church, confused and disillusioned, wondering why their “easy Jesus” didn’t work. Wondering why Christianity is such a sham. Or why God must not care about them. Or feeling wronged, as if they've been deceived.
That soul then is likely lost forever, along with anyone else willing to listen and trust the experiences of that poor misguided person. That’s ok though, there are plenty more fish in the sea, right?! You win some, you lose some.
Really?!?
Christ never promised easy. He promised transformation. He promised pruning and loving discipline. He promised that following Him would cost relationships, reputations, comfort, and sometimes everything we thought we needed to survive. Heck, he promises death to our selves, to die to the old life and to our pride, our control, our cravings, our plans, so that by having faith, reliance and obedience, something far better can be born in its place.
The Christian life isn’t about making your life better. It’s about surrendering your life altogether. But here’s the truth most people miss: What we lose was never life to begin with. What we gain is everything.
When we surrender the temporary, we receive the eternal. When we release control, we find peace. When we die to ourselves, we finally live. What we sacrifice for Christ is nothing compared to what we gain in Him.
In a world addicted to comfort and instant gratification, we carry something infinitely greater... the unshakable assurance of belonging to Christ, walking with Him, and living for something that outlasts the grave.
Union with Jesus isn’t comfortable, it’s costly. But it’s worth everything.
So stop selling comfort.
Stop softening the message.
Stop promising an easier life.
Call people to the cross.
Call them to surrender.
Call them to die.
Because on the other side of that death is the only life that truly matters.
