DO NOT Follow As Instructed!

Exodus 11-12

In defense of "pleading the blood" - a biblical practice rooted in Exodus and prophetic of Christ's covering. Learn why this phrase is far from unbiblical.

Today I encountered a post that demanded Christians to stop pleading the blood, insisting that this was not biblical. The banter suggested that Christians use this phrase as a "spiritual spray gun" operating in opposition of biblical principles and teaching.

Yet again, the internet has given rise and podium to many spiritually deafened folks, under false pretense, using God as a manner of click-bait. As I've matured in faith, and my relationship with God deepened, I've learned that discord, distraction, and disagreement rarely serve the Kingdom well.

Misrepresentation is running prevalent however, in light of the mighty outpouring of spirit-led callings that we are experiencing in this season. In defense of the One who gave everything for me, this isn't something my soul cannot abide. Let's start here: Ultimately, God looks intently at the posture, motives, and purity of the heart.

Relationship and fruit matter most to Him. Anything else seems to be semantics.

But for clarity and education against the aforementioned ignorance, this practice doesn't originate from a single moment at the cross. There's a deeper biblical thread here. In Exodus 11–12, God sent His final judgment into Egypt: the death of every firstborn. Yet He provided a covering of protection for His people. He instructed Israel to sacrifice a spotless lamb and mark their doorposts with its blood: "When I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you."

Judgment didn't skip Israel because of their behavior, their worthiness, or their spiritual maturity, it skipped them because they were covered by the blood.

This moment was a prophetic picture of salvation. It taught that deliverance is never earned; it is received through the blood that covers us. God didn't look inside the house, evaluate the occupants, or measure their righteousness. He simply looked for the blood.

Bonus fact: this is why Jewish believers still keep Passover today, AND why many Christians pray "the blood of Jesus" over people, homes, situations, or circumstances. This isn't unbiblical. It is a practice rooted in one of Scripture's clearest demonstrations of God's protective covering.

Go to war! Pray the name of Jesus over them until you can't speak it any more! Pray the blood over those you love and cherish, pray that the blood will spare them of some of life's misfortunes. Claim victory in Jesus' mighty name! Don't worry about the naysays... Jesus sees the posture of your heart, the intent of your prayer. Be bold and watch as the Lord works in His own powerful and mysterious ways.

One would hope that a sincere believer seeking truth, might revisit their stance based on newly discovered information, ultimately withdrawing the original claim if said information was weighed against scripture and found earnest. A sad reality is that we all do not operate by the same moral compass; nor do we always "mind" the authority of our heavenly parent. My prayers today for wisdom and clarity upon those who are genuine in their search for truth.

Proverbs 23:9 advises "Do not speak in the ears of fools, for they will despise the wisdom of your words".
