Fragile Flesh. Eternal Soul.
There is an incredible irony woven into the human story.
You possess something that will outlive galaxies, yet it currently resides in a body that can be broken by something as simple as a microscopic virus, a single accident, or simply the passing of time.
Your soul is immortal. Your body is not.
We spend enormous amounts of time protecting, decorating, entertaining, and satisfying the temporary while often neglecting the eternal. We obsess over wrinkles while ignoring bitterness. We strengthen our bodies while allowing our spirits to weaken. We prepare for retirement while failing to prepare for eternity.
Scripture reminds us that God formed Adam from the dust of the ground, but man did not truly become alive until God breathed into him the breath of life (Genesis 2:7). Dust gave us our humanity. God's breath gave us an eternal soul.
The body is a tent. The soul is the traveler.
One day our body will fail every one of us. Muscles weaken. Eyes dim. Hearts stop beating. The strongest athlete, the greatest genius, the wealthiest executive, and the most powerful ruler all arrive at the very same destination.
But your soul continues.
That reality is true. It is serious. And it is eternal. That is a very long time to be bitter, angry, and hurt because of not having given this the proper attention while you had time.
It means your greatest investment should never be in what you can see, but in what will never perish. It means your identity cannot ultimately be found in appearance, ability, possessions, or status. Those things belong to the body. They will all remain behind.
Your soul carries the image of God, the capacity to know Him, love Him, worship Him, and live with Him forever.
Perhaps the greatest tragedy isn't that our bodies are fragile, it's that so many people spend their entire lives serving what is dying while neglecting what will never die.
Jesus asked the question every generation must answer: "What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul?" -Mark 8:36
Nothing in this life is more valuable than the eternal life that follows it.
Your body is temporary, your soul is forever.
