Scripture makes an interesting statement... twice.
On two separate occasions, the Bible tells us that one day for us is like a thousand years to God. While each passage appears in a slightly different context, the core idea remains strikingly consistent.
- 2 Peter 3:8 “But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”
- Psalm 90:4 “For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night.”
Traditionally, these verses are understood non-literally, emphasizing that God exists outside of time altogether. What feels long to us may be fleeting to Him. Heaven, after all, has no need for clocks.
But… just for a moment, let’s lean into the wording.
What if “like a thousand years” wasn’t meant as poetry alone, but as a conceptual hint? What if a day of divine activity truly felt like a thousand years from our vantage point?
If that were the case… would that mean the creation of the universe- the earth, life, everything- was, in God’s experience, a six-day work, but from our perspective, a 6,000-year unfolding?
No division or conflict intended. Just a little thought experiment. Something fun to ponder.
