What In This World Is Happening?

Matthew 24:3–31

Never has the world stood at this place of prophesy fulfillment. Never. And now we find ourselves standing in a very unsettling place.

Why does it feel like something is really “off” right now?

I hear things such as this echoed time and again...

  • “...the entire world has gone crazy!”
  • “Things aren’t getting any better, I think they are getting worse.”
  • “...times have sure changed.”

And the list goes on. And on.

Maybe it’s time that we take pause and take note. Everybody is thinking it. Everybody is saying it.

But not everybody is taking it seriously. And I can’t help but wonder, why not?

We feel the change in the air, something has shifted, there is no median normal anymore. The amount of absolute insanity running rampant in the world right now is at an all time high, inarguably.

The evil that is being publicized in the world is becoming more common and more perverse.

Christians are being martyred around the globe at the most alarming rate in all of history. In fact, more in the last hundred years that all of prior recorded history, combined...

Let’s just do this, rather than me long-handing this is such detail that it fills the page, how about just a bulleted list? You might have noticed one or two of these things-

  • Wars and rumors of wars
  • Nation rising against nation
  • Famines and food shortages
  • Earthquakes and natural disasters
  • Pestilences (disease outbreaks)
  • Fearful events and global distress
  • Increase in wickedness/lawlessness
  • Love growing cold
  • Moral decline and widespread sin
  • People becoming lovers of self, money, and pleasure
  • False prophets and false teachers
  • Spiritual deception increasing
  • People rejecting sound doctrine
  • Falling away from the faith
  • Persecution of believers
  • Hatred toward Christians
  • The Gospel preached to all nations
  • Increase in knowledge
  • Division, betrayal, and offense among people
  • Signs in the sun, moon, and stars

This list is biblical. These are the signs. There is no room here for misinterpretation. Prophesy has been fulfilled. Maybe this is why we all feel that something is off. That something has changed in the world.

Because it is, and it has.

Never has the world stood at this place of prophesy fulfillment. Never. And now we find ourselves standing in a very unsettling place. For those of us who have been given gifts of wisdom in these things, there’s a heaviness. A holy burden for the things that are transpiring.

Others, just as in the day of Noah, will be scoffing and blissfully ignorant right up until the rain begins to fall. And despite the teaching, the preaching, the telling, the warning... They. Just. Wont. Listen. To no one’s detriment but their own.

So what are we to do? What can we do? We are still thankfully living in a window of grace. But many of us know... we can feel... that this window is soon to close. Jesus already came in grace, love, and humility. His next visit, will be none of those things.

With this knowledge, these are things that we need to begin discussing. These are conversations that we are already behind on having. In the legal world, when things are tied to a quickening timeline, we say “time is of the essence...” and this, is case in point.

How do we reach those that we love? How can we get them to open their eyes? To see the signs and to take this season seriously?

This is the time for serious discussion. For real conversation. For genuine engagement and tireless movement.

Let this be your word of caution... the time is now.
