Magdalen Papyrus

P64 — Matthew fragment, ~AD 60–70

Three fragments of Matthew's Gospel housed at Magdalen College, Oxford. German papyrologist Carsten Thiede re-examined the papyrus in 1994 and argued for a date of ~AD 60 — placing it within the lifetime of eyewitnesses to Jesus. If correct, it is the earliest physical evidence of a Gospel text and eliminates the "Gospels were written generations later" argument.

The Isaiah 53 Knockout Argument

Before 1947, critics argued Isaiah 53 was written after Jesus's death and retrofitted to look like prophecy. The Great Isaiah Scroll (1QIsa^a), carbon-dated to ~125 BC, contains the complete text of Isaiah 53 — 125 years before the crucifixion at minimum, and most scholars date the original composition to ~700 BC. The argument is gone.
