Sir Lionel Luckhoo is widely recognized as one of the most successful defense attorneys in recorded history. His extraordinary courtroom record made him stand out far above all other practitioners, so much so, he was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records. I’m sharing this to establish the level of credibility that should be recognized here.
His courtroom record was extraordinary:
245 consecutive murder-charge acquittals, including some secured on appeal—earning him recognition by Guinness as the world’s “most successful lawyer.”
Appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1954, a prestigious distinction reserved for accomplished senior advocates.
Nearly 45 years practicing law, from 1940 to 1985.
Then Luckhoo turned his attention to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Someone asked him if ever he had taken on a project like this, and he said no… but accepted the challenge.
After examining the evidence with the trained, and recognized brilliant mind of a defense attorney, he reached an unmistakable conclusion:
“The evidence for the resurrection of Jesus Christ is so overwhelming that it compels acceptance by proof which leaves absolutely no room for doubt.” -Sir Lionel Luckhoo
This was not a courtroom verdict, but it was the well challenged judgment of a man whose career was built on examining testimony, exposing contradictions, testing evidence, and persuading juries.
I say often that there is a major chasm, an epic difference between having an opinion and being informed. So many people rushed to deliver an uninformed opinion, based on their particular life experience or the way they “feel” about something. Let me enlighten those folks to something important: your feelings and opinions carries no weight whatsoever. It also jeopardizes every single life and those in their circle of influence, which allows this misinformation to persuade them.
Back to Luckhoo… I’m not saying that this is the smartest guy that’s ever lived, but he certainly has validated credentialing. He also didn’t haphazardly come to his conclusion. He dedicated his time, effort and resources, spending years investigating actual truths.
His established belief came from being informed. With our eternal souls at stake, should we not do the same? Is it not worth the investment of our time and energy and effort? Why do we risk literally everything based on a “feeling,” our own limited perspective, or our lazy opinion?
An uninformed opinion does not become truth simply because it is sincerely held. And when eternity is at stake, careless conclusions carry eternal consequences.
Again, Luckhoo was exceptionally qualified to evaluate evidence; and he did not reach his conclusion carelessly. He invested his time, intelligence, experience, and effort into examining the case. His belief came from being informed.
This is me pleading with you to do the same. Put in the time. Examine the evidence. Ask the hard questions. Even try to disprove what you do not currently believe. But do not reject Jesus without investigating Him.
Your eternal soul is worth the search, and the truth you discover will open a life changing reality to you that you never could have imagined.
Bu the way, Lee Strobel did the same thing. He was an atheist. He wrote the book, The Case for Christ. He’s also now a huge advocate for Christianity. These folks are no armchair referees, they were top of their fields, intelligent people, determined to intellectually prove their case. And admittedly lost.
Don’t allow laziness, misunderstanding, fear, and disbelief cost you everything. Do your homework!!! I promise, you’ll be so glad that you did.
